Kyle William Spruce
September 30, 1969 - March 28, 2026
Kyle Spruce, a decades-long resident of Bar Harbor, Maine, died by suicide near his cabin in Sugarloaf, Maine, at age 56 on March 28, 2026.
Raised by his grandparents on Chemo Pond in Bradley, Kyle attended John Bapst Memorial High School in Bangor and the University of Maine in Orono. He was landscaper and caretaker for numerous families in Bar Harbor and was known for his sensible but beautiful designs and his attention to detail. Kyle was an avid skier (in Sugarloaf, Maine and Breckenridge, Colorado), windsurfer (in Cape Hatteras and Baja California), and an accomplished tennis player, fisherman, and guitar player. He will be missed by many in Bar Harbor, Bangor, and Sugarloaf, Maine.
Kyle is survived by his beloved wife of 19 years, Catrina Spruce; his son, Gray (15); and his daughter, Nola (12). He is also survived by many close friends from throughout his life whom he considered his family.
A service will be held on Saturday, May 2, 2026, at 3 p.m. at the Somesville Meeting House, 1136 Main St., Mt. Desert, ME 04660.

Plant a tree: How does it work
When your purchase is complete, a post will be made on the tribute wall of the deceased signifying the planting of a memorial tree.
An official certificate recognizing your purchase will be included with your email receipt. You can then forward the email to the family or print it and give it to them personally.
After an order is placed, our forestry partners will plant the tree in the area of greatest need (nearest the funeral home), according to the planting schedule for the year.
Due to seasonal conditions, the tree planting takes place during the spring and summer.

January - May
Planting will take place in Spring or Summer of the same year.
June - December
Planting will take place in Spring of the following year.
