Joan Carol Austin
September 19, 1939 - April 7, 2025
Joan Carol Austin of Bucksport, Maine, passed away at Eastern Maine Medical in Bangor, Maine, on April 7, 2025. Joan was born on September 19, 1939, to Joseph and Hazel Downes in Albany, New York.
Joan graduated from Albany High School in 1958. She met and married Karl Austin from Rensselaer, New York, in 1959, and moved to Cincinnati, Ohio. Throughout the years, Joan worked as a bookkeeper for several companies. Joan and Karl had two daughters, Barbara and Susan.
Joan was predeceased by both parents; and her brother, Richard. She is survived by Karl, both daughters, four grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
Joan and Karl moved to Maine in 1976. In the last few years she discovered that numerous past relatives lived and raised families in many of the surrounding communities. Joan was very active in the Trinity Episcopal Church in Castine, Maine. Joan was responsible for raising thousands of dollars for many years to provide outreach to H.O.M.E. in Orland, Maine, especially for the childrens daycare center. This was an important part of her life and she was very good at it. Her passing is very hard on her family and friends, and she will be greatly missed. She just went so fast.
We are planning a celebration of Joan's life in summer 2025. In lieu of flowers, please make donations to H.O.M.E. in Orland, Maine.

Plant a tree: How does it work
When your purchase is complete, a post will be made on the tribute wall of the deceased signifying the planting of a memorial tree.
An official certificate recognizing your purchase will be included with your email receipt. You can then forward the email to the family or print it and give it to them personally.
After an order is placed, our forestry partners will plant the tree in the area of greatest need (nearest the funeral home), according to the planting schedule for the year.
Due to seasonal conditions, the tree planting takes place during the spring and summer.

January - May
Planting will take place in Spring or Summer of the same year.
June - December
Planting will take place in Spring of the following year.
