Loving Memory of James Eddie Crockett
September 1, 1934 - July 23, 2025

James Eddie Crockett passed away peacefully on July 23, 2025, at the age of 90. Born on September 1, 1934, in Vinita, Oklahoma, he was the beloved son of Robert Andy Crockett and Inez Johnson. James was raised on a farm just outside of Vinita alongside his three siblings—Bob, Aileen, and Mary—where he developed a strong work ethic and a deep appreciation for family and rural life before moving to Sacramento for school.

After graduating from high school in 1951, James proudly served two years in the U.S. Army. Following his military service, he began what would become a devoted 27-year career with Safeway. Over the years, he rose through the ranks to become a respected union representative and ultimately served as president of the Meat Cutters and Clerks Union. In that role, he was a tireless advocate for the rights and well-being of his fellow workers.

James shared 50 wonderful years of marriage with Doris Tofanelli until her passing in 2007. Together, they built a life rich in love, laughter, and family. He is survived by their three children—Jimmy, Kathy, and Robert ("Hook")—as well as his treasured grandchildren: Stacy, Wesly, Trey, and Bryce. He absolutely adored his beautiful great-grandchildren—Emma, Charlotte, Eloise, Lillian, and Adeline—affectionately calling them his "little beauties." They brought him endless joy and lit up his life in his later years.

James and Doris shared a love of adventure and were proud members of the Winnebago Travel Club. Together, they traveled nearly 200,000 miles across the United States in their motorhome, creating lasting memories and embracing the freedom of the open road.

In later years, James found companionship and renewed joy with Myrna Johnson, with whom he shared 16 meaningful and fulfilling years. He continued his love for traveling with Myrna, often frequenting their favorite spot in Hawaii.

A proud direct descendant of American folk hero Davy Crockett, James carried his heritage with quiet pride. He will be remembered for his strength, kindness, humor, and unwavering devotion to those he loved.

James left this world as he lived his life—peacefully, humbly, and without regrets. Surrounded by his loved ones, he spent his final moments with Myrna laying by his side until the very end. His legacy is one of love, dedication, and integrity. His memory will remain a lasting gift to all who knew and loved him.

Plant a tree: How does it work

When your purchase is complete, a post will be made on the tribute wall of the deceased signifying the planting of a memorial tree.

An official certificate recognizing your purchase will be included with your email receipt. You can then forward the email to the family or print it and give it to them personally.

After an order is placed, our forestry partners will plant the tree in the area of greatest need (nearest the funeral home), according to the planting schedule for the year.

Due to seasonal conditions, the tree planting takes place during the spring and summer.

Tree Planting Timeline

Orders placed in:

January - May

Planting will take place in Spring or Summer of the same year.

June - December

Planting will take place in Spring of the following year.
