Arlen L. Chitwood
July 15, 1933 - April 5, 2026
Arlen L. Chitwood, 92, of Cottonwood, Arizona, passed away on April 5, 2026. Born in Poteau, Oklahoma, Arlen served in the U.S. Navy (1953-1957) before pursuing his passion for theology. He earned a Master's degree in Bible and Greek and dedicated his life to scriptural scholarship.
Arlen resided in Norman, Oklahoma, for nearly 40 years, where he worked for the National Weather Service until his retirement in 1998. His true calling was The Lamp Broadcast, a ministry he founded in the 1970s. A prolific author, he wrote 52 books on Biblical studies that reached a global audience.
He was preceded in death by his first wife, Ruth, and his second wife, Donna. Arlen is survived by his children: John Chitwood and wife Stacy, Floris Real and husband Eric, and Josie Vitiello and husband Eugene; four grandchildren; and one great-grandson.
The family wishes to extend their deepest gratitude to family friend Orrie Kreuscher and the staff at Northern Arizona Hospice for their exceptional care and compassion.
Memorial services are pending. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests honoring Arlen's legacy by engaging with the scriptural teachings available at lampbroadcast.org

Plant a tree: How does it work
When your purchase is complete, a post will be made on the tribute wall of the deceased signifying the planting of a memorial tree.
An official certificate recognizing your purchase will be included with your email receipt. You can then forward the email to the family or print it and give it to them personally.
After an order is placed, our forestry partners will plant the tree in the area of greatest need (nearest the funeral home), according to the planting schedule for the year.
Due to seasonal conditions, the tree planting takes place during the spring and summer.
Tree Planting Timeline
Orders placed in:
